With 2023 behind us, it's time for me to look into what my goals for myself and my animals for 2024 will be. My efforts to revive CROC after the setbacks from the Covid pandemic and more recent family obligations has been extremely challenging over the last few years. Towards the end of 2023 I realized that I had fallen short on many of my ambitions to grow CROC as a business, and instead set the goal to reduce my involvement in many facets of animal outreach and rescue efforts to focus primarily on the needs of my current animals and family.
A new year is a great time to set new goals, and I have higher hopes of making some positive changes for my animals my family and myself into the next year, this is why for 2024 I am setting the following goals:
Improve animal welfare through "lead by example" efforts with my own animals - Including improvement to current habitat setups, increased opportunities for enrichment, and improving species-specific diets.
Encourage more natural behaviors and cognitive stimulation with emotionally advanced species (especially avians) through behavioral training, socialization, and habitat enrichment.
Build my own daughter's involvement in animal care and outreach to continue to grow a new generation of animal welfare advocates. Increase opportunities for her to participate as a volunteer in outreach programs and training sessions, and further build on her existing Mia's Menagerie video series.
Over the past year I have acknowledged that I do indeed have my limits. 2023 really drove home for me the fact that there is only so much I can take on at once. Needing to focus on the needs of my family, career, and existing animals has truly become the top priority going forward into 2024 and beyond.
While I suspect that my efforts to build CROC as a business will continue to decline, I am looking forward to taking this time away from the business side of things to focus on improving the wellbeing of my animals, my family, and myself.
I hope that 2024 brings some much needed positive changes for all.
